About Botox

Botox® is commonly used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. Made from a purified protein, Botox injections block nerve impulses, relaxing muscles that cause wrinkles. The face looks rejuvenated as the injection takes effect over the next few days. Botox has been used safely for cosmetic purposes for many years. Like many medications however it needs to be administered carefully. All injections at South Island Medical Aesthetics are performed by physicians.

How it works

Within a few days of a treatment, treated muscles relax. Because Botox is a non-surgical treatment option, the effects are not permanent but will last three or four months or more. Results are different for everyone. Extremely severe lines may never completely fade, but will gradually become less noticeable. Your doctor will work with you in designing a treatment schedule for optimal results. If you decide to discontinue your Botox treatments, you will notice a re-emergence of the lines and wrinkles you had lost over time.

When is Botox used?

Botox works well to soften the frown lines between the eyebrows, on the forehead or around the eyes. Ask the South Island doctors about the product's many other uses. Botox also miraculously eliminates excess sweating in the palms and underarms, effects which may last up to one year.
