About Dermal Fillers and Facial Contouring
Dermal fillers are designed to smooth wrinkles and folds, sculpt lips, and shape and replace volume in the face.
What is the filler made of?
The physicians at South Island Medical use two different types of skin fillers: hyaluronic acid, a natural substance present in the skin which is gradually lost as skin ages, and also a combination filler of both calcium and phosphate - natural substances present in bones.
The most commonly treated areas are the lips, mouth area, the nasolabial folds - vertical smile lines from your nose to your mouth - under the eyes, and the cheeks. With their unique ability to bind with water, these fillers can provide lasting improvement and a smooth, natural appearance. Depending on the filler used, the effects may last up to 18 months. Dermal fillers are always carefully injected by one of our specialized physicians with experience and talent in facial contouring. The type of dermal filler used will be a decision between you and your doctor depending on its suitability for your particular requirements.
How it works
A facial contouring or small area skin treatment involves injecting the product into the mid to deep dermis. The effect of the injection is to add volume under lines and wrinkles around the mouth, eyes, nose and forehead. Cheek and chin dimples, and hollows under the eyes for example can be filled to create a smoother look. Lip volume and lip line can be subtly enhanced.
